Real
Science-4-Kids Biology Level 1 Chapter 1: Living Creatures
I had this curriculum
on hand and decided to use it along with AW. If I had Apologia's Zoology texts
already, I would use those instead.

I
created these cut out cards to practice putting classification labels in the correct
order. I will be creating specific activities to use with the cards and with the
same color coding. You can use these cards and activities even if you aren't
using the Real Science-4-Kids curriculum as they will help your students get
a better understanding of the classification of animals. Then when you read the
selections out of the Animal Encyclopedia your student will know what it means
when the book mentions "family" and "species"!
Classification
practice:
Practice
classification using these cards. They are color coded to match the cards in the
printable above so students know which label is a kingdom, phylum, class, order,
family, genus or species name. There is also a "check" card so students
can check their work. Click the following animal names in the table below for
a printable that looks similar to the one on the left. Students can compare the
animal cards to see the similarities and differences in classification names.
After practicing with these cards, students may enjoy looking up the classifications
of the animals they are learning about in the Animal Encyclopedia book. Use Wikipedia to find out the complete classifications.
If
you don't want to cut up the pages, you can just put them into your science notebook
that was started with The Animal Kingdom book.
Jan
Brett's Printable African
Mural - Print out and color some of the animals for the mural. This is your
last week studying the African savanna! You can also use these printables for
a report or your nature notebook.
