What is a book basket and how do I use one? A book basket is a container (basket, box, shelf, whatever) where you put a variety of books related to your current study or studies for "browsing" . You can pull out a book during free reading, make your read-aloud choices from the basket or snatch a book to read during lunch or while mom is folding laundry. They are also nice to have for holidays or seasons. In December, the book basket might have books about snow or winter or Jesus's birth. The key is to have theme related books easily available but not necessarily assigned. If a book doesn't "click" just toss it back and pick out another one. If sister doesn't "feel" like reading, she can just look through the pictures (and still learn quite a lot). Maybe brother might grab a book and read some of it to the baby or take it along to a doctor's appointment.
