Reading Maya Hieroglyphics

Science notes: If you watch the Secrets of Lost Empires DVD, you may want to do this fun activity: "Hang in There" (after viewing the segment where they build a bridge from twisted grass). Build a suspension bridge out of newspaper strips and experiment with ways to make it stronger.

Craft notes: Cut out the Aztec puppets. When you are done playing with them, put them in a pocket in your history notebook!

Timeline notes: 1.Ponce de Leon landed in Florida in 1513, Balboa saw the Pacific Ocean in 1513, Magellan's crew sailed around the world 1519-1522 2. Cortes conquered Mexico 1521 Montezuma (leader of the Aztecs), Pizzarro attacked the Incas in Peru 1532

Extras notes: Listen to some panpipe music when you get to the part where the minstrel is visiting Cusi and Chuto. I recommend the site linked above that has free streaming music and is a pleasant introduction to panpipes.
