Notebooking notes: Draw Write Now: p.22-23 Picture Writing Picture writing printable worksheet A "hide" on the first sheet has all sorts of picture writing symbols on it. The 2nd sheet has "blank hides" so you can write your own story out of symbols. This would be a good time to talk about other forms of picture writing -how the Egyptians used it and how Chinese characters came from pictures, etc. Ask your child why writing with pictures would get pretty cumbersome after awhile (because you'd have to remember "pictures" for everything vs. the 26 letters of our alphabet with some 70 or so sound combinations, etc.)

The Nez Perce raised horses so I've found some horse activities to go along with this topic!

Horse Story Worksheet Use this to write a story about a horse or about Kaya.

Horse dot-to-dot: This dot-to-dot is pretty simple. My son likes dot-to-dots though and so I decided to include it.

Appaloosa Coloring Book: Color the pictures of the appaloosas (or paint them) for your notebook. Write some facts on the back from an encyclopedia, book or online.
